A Great Return For Callander Amateur Operatic Society

Welcome to the website of Callander Amateur Operatic Society ..... or CAOS as we're affectionately known.

As many of you will know, this year marked our return to the stage after missing out a year in 2016.  And what a return it was.  We chose to do the blockbuster Broadway show, Guys and Dolls.  Running from 15th to 18th March 2017, the show drew large audiences, who, by the time they left, were buzzing.  Every night's audience went away saying that this was one of our best ever shows.  The company had been smaller than in previous years and this made putting on a show like Guys and `Dolls more difficult, but everyone rose to the occasion and put on performances that will live in the memory for a long time.

We have to thank a large army of volunteers who helped us out by running 'front of house, managing back stage operations, lighting, props, prompt, wardrobe, teas and coffees etc.  Our new (returned) Director, Iain Fraser) and our new Musical Director (Marc Fallon) together with our Vocal Coach (Alycia Hayes) were tireless in getting us to the point where we could present the show with confidence.

At present we have not decided which show we will present in 2018, but we're sure it will be a good one.  So, keep an eye out for an announcement in the Ben Ledi View.

NEW MEMBERS

CAOS is keen to encourage existing, new and younger members to join the society for the season 2016/2017.  For those thinking about joining us, but put off by the inclusion of "Operatic" in our name, thinking that we just do old fashioned, fuddy duddy stuff, DON'T BE.  We've never ever done a proper opera and although we've done some operettas, e.g. Gilbert & Sullivan stuff, most of our shows are West End and Broadway musicals.

If you enjoy singing and like the idea of performing in front of an audience, and would like the opportunity of being involved with a long established and successful team of like-minded enthusiasts, then please come along to our rehearsals.  No particular skills are required.  You don’t have to be able to read music although some singing ability would definitely be useful.  No previous experience of either acting or performing is an entry requirement, those skills can be developed through experience.  What we do know is that when you come along you'll be in the company of many others who didn't know what to expect when they decided to "give it a go".  You might have thought about it for years, well now is your chance!  Rehearsals take place on Wednesdays at Callander Golf Club starting at 7.30 pm and running through to 10 pm while we have yet to set a date for the first rehearsal, it is generally in the first week of September
