A New Beginning For Callander Amateur Operatic Society

Welcome to the website of Callander Amateur Operatic Society ..... or CAOS as we're affectionately known.

Regular visitors to this site will be aware that we've been in a period of hiatus and that this site has not been updated for a number of months.  Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, we had to cancel our planned 2016 production.  However, we're up and running again and in this, our 37th year, we are building towards our 2017 production Guys and Dolls.

As many will know our longstanding Musical Director and founder, Ian Milligan retired after the 2015 show, South Pacific.  Initially, following Ian's retirement we had managed to identify a new Musical Director, but unfortunately it didn't quite work out - one of the reasons we had to cancel our 2016 show.  We are delighted to announce that we now have a new Musical Director - Marc Fallon. - Marc will be working in collaboration with Alycia Hayes who will be providing vocal coaching.

Last year, we welcomed back, as our Producer, Iain Fraser.  Those familiar with our history will know that Iain produced a number of shows for us, including our highly successful 2009 production of Fiddler on the Roof.  Iain was going to produce our 2016 show, but when it was cancelled, he hung around and held a number of Theatre Workshops which helped members hone their stage craft.

As mentioned above, our first show in this new era will be "Guys And Dolls"Click here for more details.

CAOS is keen to encourage existing, new and younger members to join the society for the season 2016/2017.  For those thinking about joining us, but put off by the inclusion of "Operatic" in our name, thinking that we just do old fashioned, fuddy duddy stuff, DON'T BE.  We've never ever done a proper opera and although we've done some operettas, e.g. Gilbert & Sullivan stuff, most of our shows are West End and Broadway musicals.

If you enjoy singing and like the idea of performing in front of an audience, and would like the opportunity of being involved with a long established and successful team of like-minded enthusiasts, then please come along to our rehearsals.  No particular skills are required.  You don’t have to be able to read music although some singing ability would definitely be useful.  No previous experience of either acting or performing is an entry requirement, those skills can be developed through experience.  What we do know is that when you come along you'll be in the company of many others who didn't know what to expect when they decided to "give it a go".  You might have thought about it for years, well now is your chance!  Rehearsals take place on Wednesdays at Callander Golf Club starting at 7.30 pm and running through to 10 pm and the first rehearsal of the new season will be on Wednesday 5th October.
