A Great Return For Callander Amateur Operatic Society and a Great Show Coming Up

Welcome to the website of Callander Amateur Operatic Society ..... or CAOS as we're affectionately known.

I am pleased to announce that next year's show will be Oliver! a great favourite with audiences far and wide We will be producing this show in collaboration with the Callander Kirk Junior Choir from whence will come all the lovable young urchins including the Artful Dodger and of course Oliver Twist himself.   Click here to find out more.  What a great show to follow the success of 'Guys and Dolls' (see below).

As many of you will know, 2017 marked our return to the stage after missing out a year in 2016.  And what a return it was.  We chose to do the blockbuster Broadway show, Guys and Dolls.  Running from 15th to 18th March 2017, the show drew large audiences, who, by the time they left, were buzzing.  Every night's audience went away saying that this was one of our best ever shows.  The company had been smaller than in previous years and this made putting on a show like Guys and `Dolls more difficult, but everyone rose to the occasion and put on performances that will live in the memory for a long time.

We have to thank a large army of volunteers who helped us out by running 'front of house, managing back stage operations, lighting, props, prompt, wardrobe, teas and coffees etc.  Our new (returned) Director, Iain Fraser and our new Musical Director (Marc Fallon) together with our Vocal Coach (Alycia Hayes) were tireless in getting us to the point where we could present the show with confidence.

Going back to Oliver!, rehearsals are now well underway.  Nevertheless, if anyone wants to join us on stage to sing, dance or just generally move around being street vendors, tavern customers, or variety of other 'passers-by', it's not too late.  Just come along to rehearsals at 7.30 pm in Callander Golf Club.  You'll be made most welcome to join us for what promises to be an exciting adventure in Victorian London's East End.

CAOS is keen to encourage existing, new and younger members to join the society for the season 2017/2018.  For those thinking about joining us, but put off by the inclusion of "Operatic" in our name, thinking that we just do old fashioned, fuddy duddy stuff, DON'T BE.  We've never ever done a proper opera and although we've done some operettas, e.g. Gilbert & Sullivan stuff, most of our shows are West End and Broadway musicals.

If you enjoy singing and like the idea of performing in front of an audience, and would like the opportunity of being involved with a long established and successful team of like-minded enthusiasts, then please come along to our rehearsals.  No particular skills are required.  You don’t have to be able to read music although some singing ability would definitely be useful.  No previous experience of either acting or performing is an entry requirement, those skills can be developed through experience.  What we do know is that when you come along you'll be in the company of many others who didn't know what to expect when they decided to "give it a go".  You might have thought about it for years, well now is your chance!  Rehearsals take place on Wednesdays at Callander Golf Club starting at 7.30 pm and running through to 10 pm while we have yet to set a date for the first rehearsal, it is generally in the first week of September
