Our Next Production ......... Oliver!

Our next show will be Oliver! - one of the most popular musicals ever with music and lyrics by Lionel Bart.

The musical is, of course, based on the novel, Oliver Twist, written by Charles Dickens.  The story takes place in Victorian London's East End and is of a young orphan boy, Oliver, who through a series of mishaps, ends up in the hands of Fagin and his gang of young urchins.  Oliver finds himself being trained as a pickpocket and thief, but isn't too good at it and gets caught on his first outing.  The victim, Mr Brownlow, takes pity on Oliver and takes him to live at his house.

So, things are looking up for Oliver, until he is tricked by Nancy, Bill Sykes' girlfriend, to return to Fagin's den.  Full of remorse, Nancy tries to return Oliver to Mr Brownlow, but is intercepted by Bill, who kills Nancy and goes on the run, with Oliver in tow. The Bow Street Runners catch up with Bill and in trying to escape, he is shot and Oliver is rescued.

Great story, made even better by some great songs - 'Food Glorious Food', Oom Pah Pah', 'Consider Yourself', 'Gotta Pick a Pocket or Two', 'As Long As He Needs Me', 'Reviewing the Situation' and many more.

The show will run from Wednesday 21st to Saturday 24th March at McLaren High School, with performances starting at 7.30 pm.
