The Sound of Music Cancelled

Welcome to the website of Callander Amateur Operatic Society ..... or CAOS as we're affectionately known.

It is with regret and sadness that I have to announce that our performances of The Sound of Music, due to have taken place over 18th to 21st March 2020, have been CANCELLED.  This is due to the effects of the coronavirus crisis and the Government's advice to the public to avoid gathering in places such as theatres.

At this stage we have not decided on the way forward, although clearly this cancellation will have a financial impact on the Society.  However, as many of you will know, we missed a year in 2016 due to a variety of circumstances, but when on to make an emphatic return in 2017 with the blockbuster Broadway show, Guys and Dolls. and followed that up in 2018 and 2019 with Oliver! and Annie respectively.  We are determined that we will recover from this crisis and be ready to continue entertaining our Callander audiences for many years to come.

Once we have a clearer idea what the future holds, we will publish information here and on social media and through the Ben Ledi View.

NEW MEMBERS

Although we are unlikely to meet again for quite a few months, we are still keen to encourage new and younger members to join the society in preparation for future shows.  For those thinking about joining us, but put off by the inclusion of "Operatic" in our name, thinking that we just do old fashioned, fuddy-duddy stuff, DON'T BE. We've never, ever done a proper opera and although we've done some operettas, e.g. Gilbert & Sullivan stuff, most of our shows are West End and Broadway musicals.

If you enjoy singing and like the idea of performing in front of an audience, and would like the opportunity of being involved with a long established and successful team of like-minded enthusiasts, then please come along to our rehearsals.  No particular skills are required.  You don’t have to be able to read music although some singing ability would definitely be useful.  No previous experience of either acting or performing is an entry requirement, those skills can be developed through experience.  What we do know is that when you come along you'll be in the company of many others who didn't know what to expect when they decided to "give it a go".  You might have thought about it for years, well now is your chance!  If you are interested, contact us through using the 'Contact Us' page on this website.
