Welcome from our President Angela Dickinson

Our Next Show is Calamity Jane

Welcome to the website of Callander Amateur Operatic Society ..... or CAOS as we're affectionately known.

So back in March this year we finally managed to put on 'Sound of Music' and what a fabulous success it was.  People still come up to me and other members and tell us how much they enjoyed the show.   It's time now to look forward to our next show in March 2023 which will be 'Calamity Jane'.

The longer standing members of our regular audience will recall that we last did Calamity Jane back in 1998.  We felt it was now time to do it again with a much changed CAOS cast - in fact only one of our current membership took part in the 1998 show, (although we hope to persuade one or two back for this reprise).

'Calamity Jane' will run from 15th to 18th March 2023 and will take place, as usual, in McLaren High School.  More details can be found on 'Our Next Production' page.

Despite increasing costs, we have decided to hold ticket prices at £14; £11 for concessions and £5 for children aged 12 and under.  Please note that concession and child prices are not available for the Friday performance.

In due course tickets will be available from Callander Post Office, or from any member of CAOS.  However, they can be ordered online NOW by going to the 'Our Next Production' page.

NEW MEMBERS

As noted above, in the 25 years since we last put on 'Calamity Jane', CAOS membership has changed hugely and that's a never ending process.   People come and people go and consequently we are always on the lookout for new members.  We've been lucky in recent years to welcome a number of new faces, many of whom appeared for the first time in 'Sound of Music' and all agreed what a great experience it was.  So, if you're reading this, Why Not You?  We are keen to encourage new and younger members to join us - those considering it, but put off by the word "Operatic" in our name, thinking that we just do old fashioned, fuddy-duddy stuff, DON'T BE. We've never, ever done a proper opera and although we've done some operettas, e.g. Gilbert & Sullivan stuff, most of our shows are West End and Broadway musicals.

If you enjoy singing and like the idea of performing in front of an audience, and would like the opportunity of being involved with a long established and successful team of like-minded enthusiasts, then please come along to our rehearsals. No particular skills are required. You don’t have to be able to read music and, although some singing ability would definitely be useful, it's not necessary. No previous experience of either acting or performing is an entry requirement, those skills can be developed through experience.  What we do know is that when you come along you'll be in the company of many others who didn't know what to expect when they decided to "give it a go".  Or you might like to keep your activities off-stage, e.g. stage crew, managing props, helping out with wardrobe, make-up or front-of house.  You might have thought about it for years, well now is your chance! If you are interested, contact us through using the 'Contact Us' page on this website, or if you know a current or past CAOS member, talk to them, or just come along to our first rehearsal for 'Calamity Jane', on Monday 5th September 2022 at 7.30 pm at McLaren High School.
