Looking forward to The Sound of Music
Welcome to the website of Callander Amateur Operatic Society ..... or CAOS as we're affectionately known.
I am pleased to announce that our 2020 show will be The Sound of Music, another great favourite with audiences far and wide. Click here to find out more. What a great show to follow the success of Annie, (see below).
As many of you will know, we missed a year in 2016 due to a variety of circumstances. However, we made an emphatic return in 2017 with the blockbuster Broadway show, Guys and Dolls. and followed that up in 2018 and 2019 with Oliver! and Annie respectively. All these shows drew large audiences, who, by the time they left, were buzzing. These last two shows were done in collaboration with Callander Kirk Junior Choir and although there is no formal collaboration this year, all of the von Trapp children are played by CKJC stalwarts.
Although, we are well underway with rehearsals for The Sound of Music, we are still keen keen to encourage existing, new
and younger members to join the society in preparation for future shows. For those thinking about joining us, but put off by the inclusion of "Operatic" in our name, thinking that we just do old fashioned, fuddy duddy stuff, DON'T BE. We've never, ever done a proper opera and although we've done some operettas, e.g. Gilbert & Sullivan stuff, most of our shows are West End and Broadway musicals.
you enjoy singing and like the idea of performing in front of an
audience, and would like the opportunity of being involved with a long
established and successful team of like-minded enthusiasts, then please
come along to our rehearsals. No particular skills are required.
You don’t have to be able to read music although some singing ability
would definitely be useful. No previous experience of either acting or
performing is an entry requirement, those skills can be
developed through experience. What we do know is that when you
come along you'll be in the company of many others who didn't know what
to expect when they decided to "give it a go". You might have thought
about it for years, well now is your chance! As mentioned above, rehearsals take place on Mondays at McLaren High School, starting at 7.30 pm and running through to 10 pm.
