Callander Amateur Operatic Society
Our Next Production ......... ??????
Our next show was due to be The Sound of Music (SoM) - the final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein which was destined to become the world's most beloved musical. Unfortunately, the show had to be cancelled as a result of the coronavirus crisis. We shall, in due course, decide on the way forward, whether that might be re-staging SoM or moving onto another show. However, until such time as we know what that will be, we shall keep the 'blurb' on Sound of Music on this page, to remind us 'what might have been'.
It is 1938 and Austria is in danger of being absorbed into Germany - the Anschluss. When a postulant proves too high-spirited for the religious life, she is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval Captain. Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain, and they marry. Upon returning from their honeymoon they discover that Austria has been invaded by the Nazis, who demand the Captain's immediate service in their navy. The family's narrow escape over the mountains to Switzerland on the eve of World War II provides one of the most thrilling and inspirational finales ever presented in the theatre. The motion picture version remains the most popular movie musical of all time.
Great story, made even better by some great songs - 'Doh A Dear', 'Eidelweiss', 'Sixteen Going On Seventeen', 'Climb Every Mountain' and of course, 'The Sound of Music' and many more.
The show will run from Wednesday 18th to Saturday 21st March 2020, at McLaren High School, with Wednesday to Friday performances starting at 7.30 pm and Saturday at 3 pm.
